Safety on Olive
Olive should be a safe place to bring the real stuff: grief, doubt, sickness, hope. Here's how to look after yourself and others, what happens when you report something, and where to get help fast.
Olive can't send help. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 in the UK or 911 in the US. For someone to talk to, see crisis help below.
1. Your safety tools
Tap the ••• on a post, comment, person or chat to find these:
- Not interested: hides that post from your feed. Only you know.
- Hide posts from…: mutes someone. You stop seeing their posts; they aren't told.
- Block: you unfollow each other, their posts drop out of your feed, and your chat with them closes and calls stop until you unblock. They aren't told, and you can unblock later from their profile or the chat.
- Report: sends it to the Olive team (see below).
- Private account: in Settings, so only followers you approve see your posts.
- Leave any group chat or community at any time.
2. How to report
You can report posts, comments, prayers, community posts, chat messages, groups and people. Tap ••• then Report, pick a reason and, if you like, add a short note:
- Spam or scam
- Bullying or harassment
- Hate
- Sexual content
- Violence
- False information that could hurt people
- Someone may be at risk of harm
- Something else
The person you report is never told who reported them. Once you report a post, it disappears from your own feed straight away.
No account, or can't get into the app? Email support@adovecalledolive.com with a link or screenshot.
3. What happens after a report
- A case opens. All reports about the same post are gathered into one case, so we see the full picture.
- It may be hidden from everyone at once, before anyone reviews it, if:
- three or more different people have reported it, or
- someone reports that a person may be at risk of harm (these cases also go to the top of the queue as urgent), or
- our automatic safety check (Jev, a safety classifier) rates it as high or urgent.
- A person reviews it. Someone on the Olive team reads the post, the reasons and any notes, and decides:
- Keep: it breaks no rule, and it's shown again.
- Remove: it's taken down, and the poster is told which rule it broke.
- Remove and suspend: for serious or repeated breaches, the account can't post, comment or message.
- Illegal content, such as anything that sexualises a child or credible threats, is removed and reported to the police or the right authority.
New posts are also checked automatically for things like hate, sexual content and self-harm, and anything flagged is hidden until a person has looked. Every action is logged. We aim to review urgent reports within [24 HOURS] and others within [7 DAYS].
4. If your post is removed
We'll tell you what was removed and which rule it broke. If you think we got it wrong, tap Ask for a review in the notification or on your profile and add a short note (up to 500 characters). You can appeal once for each decision. We look again and let you know; that answer is final. If you're suspended and can't get into the app, email support@adovecalledolive.com. The full rules are in our Terms.
5. Chats, calls and location
- Chats aren't end-to-end encrypted. Don't share passwords, bank details or anything you'd be hurt to see leaked. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
- Be careful who you meet. If you arrange to meet someone from Olive, meet in a public place such as a church, tell someone you trust, and leave if you feel uneasy.
- No one on Olive should ask you for money, gift cards or personal documents in a private message. Report it.
- Calls happen in a private room for each chat. Only answer calls from people you know.
- Location sharing is off until you turn it on for a group, and you choose exactly who in that group can see you. Switch it off any time.
6. Crisis help
If a prayer request or message makes you worried someone may hurt themselves, report it with "Someone may be at risk of harm" so it's seen fast, and, if you know them, encourage them to call one of these. You don't have to be at breaking point to call.
- 999UK emergency: police, ambulance, fire. Immediate danger.
- 116 123Samaritans (UK and Ireland): free, day or night. Or email jo@samaritans.org.

Praying for someone is a gift. So is helping them get support from people trained for it.
7. For parents and carers
Olive is for people aged [MINIMUM AGE: Adam to decide, 13 or 16] and over. It's a social app with public videos, comments, group chats and calls, so we suggest:
- Talk about it together. Ask who they chat with and what communities they've joined, the same way you'd ask about youth group.
- Turn on a private account in Settings, so only approved followers see their posts.
- Keep location sharing off, and remind them never to post their school, home address or phone number.
- Show them how to block and report, and that telling a trusted adult is never snitching.
- Use your phone's own controls (Screen Time on iPhone, Family Link on Android) for time limits and app approval.
- Worried about a child's safety? Email us, and you can also contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000, or report online sexual abuse to CEOP at ceop.police.uk.
If you think your child is under the minimum age and has an account, email privacy@adovecalledolive.com and we'll close it.
